Thursday Night Mowing League 2024: Week 4 - Here Comes Coach Colt B.
Commissioner's Report
I'm taking a DNM (Did Not Mow) this week due to weather conditions, but after witnessing the effort of Diesel in SE Michigan, just 15 miles north of me, I'm starting to think I missed an opportunity to stay 4-for-4 on the year with weeks mowed.
Diesel put in an edge, mow, blow performance that has many people here in the soaked Midwest on notice. The guy took an early-season DNM for his 30th wedding anniversary week where he and Mrs. Diesel traveled across the south playing golf, but since the, the guy has been performing.
Speaking of performing, Coach Colt Bradford down in Texas is heating up. He also had a slow start to the season, but now he's back to doing shirtless (for the ladies) post-mow press conferences and drinking his bourbon straight like a man.
Don't forget, Colt has multiple Lawn of the Week awards in his subdivision to fall back on. The guy has experience to get the job done during the dog days of the summer when weaker men fall by the wayside.
That brings me to the other new member of the TNML Top 5, Adam Dolezal.
This guy is Mr. Consistency. He's pretty much the Cal Ripken of Mowing. He isn't going to out-flash Timmy2Cuts and his video production techniques, but Dolezal is going to just work week in and week out. He's going to lay the stripes. He's going to take pride in his property. He's going to drive his son to be a mowing rising star.
And Dolezal promotes the league every week. He's just consistent and with Mike Freshwater getting rained out, Dolezal slides in.
The top three in the league seem to be set as we head into the middle of May, but the No. 4 & 5 spots are completely up for grabs right now. We're four weeks into the season. It's a marathon.
How to win MVP points when you don't mow on a Thursday
Thank you to Charles in Indy who wore the league colors, on league night, to his music performance last night. Not much gets the Commissioner excited like seeing the league colors popping up in random spots like at a club and the lead singer is hammering out hits in that beautiful, and comfortable shirt.
Speaking of showing off the league colors
I was rather stunned this week to see OutKick founder Clay Travis re-wearing the 2024 TNML Polo of the Year for his OutKick show. Clay's closet is filled with like 200 different OutKick shirts to wear. I figured the TNML Polo of the Year would go to the back of the line after he wore it in April during multiple OutKick show hits.
If Clay re-promotes a shirt/polo being sold on OutKick, that's huge, especially when you consider Clay hasn't mowed his grass since becoming rich. In fact, he said one of the first things he did when he got rich was have Lara Travis hire landscapers.
For Clay to put on the league colors this week speaks volumes. It truly is the Polo of the Summer.

That's it this week. Great job by those who weren't rained out like so many of us. Keep up the hard work. It's going to pay off when you're sitting there on Memorial Day Weekend enjoying life and neighbors are struggling to get dialed in for summer.
You've earned it.

BUY! BUY! BUY!
BUY THE TNML POLO of the SUMMER! We're back to taking orders.
If you're new to the league, I recommend starting with the orginal TNML shirt that made this league famous. Buy it, wear it proudly and prepare for people to show you respect.
Mowing Reports From Across The United States and Beyond!
- Indy Daryl writes:
It wasn’t easy and it was definitely wet, but got the job done yesterday afternoon. I got caught in a huge downpour but as we say in our family "we’re not made of sugar!" While the yard is a green as it ever has been, I think the real star of the ‘kingdom’ is the window boxes the Mrs was able to plant last week. She always does a great job and they look awesome.
I hope everyone had a great mow!
- Adam W. in Sidney, NE is one of the TNML greats. This was a big week for him:
Last year I set a regular season goal to have the yard be on point for this May.
My stripes got burnt in quickly yesterday in 48 degree cloudy weather. Great team effort with setting the black mulch.
There wasn’t time for post mow beers and pics yesterday. But we have a Yuge weekend ahead and thanks to the TNML our home is ready.
God bless the USA, and all this years grads.
Is someone cutting onions in here??

Good evening! Before my league report, I have a question: any plans on selling more TNML flags? I have one from last year hanging inside my garage, but would love to get a 3x5 to hang outside on league nights. If the flags aren't in any future plans, I'm all in on the TNML yard sign highlighted last week.
Now, down to business. It was a sunny 79 degrees with light breeze for a perfect league night!
Before League night started, I finished a project to utilize a fenced in area that was wasting space.
-cut open the fence to make a 2nd gate- now a utility gate.
-put down pavers (first time installing pavers; they look like they'll hold up)
-placed the trash cans on one set of pavers and a rain barrel on the other spot.
-Added sod around the pavers.
-This gets the cans out of the front and gives the curb appeal a cleaner look, while still having easy access with the utility gate. And utilizes the empty fenced in space.
After my paver project was finished, I got busy with league night. The #31 Leinenkugel (not officially sponsored) Ego mower made quick work of the lawn. (limited growth since last week). I raised the deck to 4 this week with the temps rising.
After the edging and mowing, I gave the lawn a good spring lawn feeding which was due this week.
A Do Hard Things League Night completed. Overall, successful. Still working on getting stripes into the Bermuda.
Hope everyone had a great league night!

Not Screencaps or TNML worthy, but here it is. First mow of the season. It should’ve been last week. The buffalo grass is looking good for now here in west Texas. Time to enjoy a cool one. Thanks for all you do, Joe.
- William in Reisterstown, MD checks in:
Hi Joe. It's your pal William R. in Reisterstown Maryland checking in.
They were calling for rain today in my area and so I pondered the idea of mowing yesterday, but the chances held strong at around 57% so I took the gamble to wait until today.
It was drizzling when I got off from work and so I decided to forge ahead. I grabbed my iPod and hit the shuffle button and the first thing that came on was Metallica's "Master of Puppets" and so I quickly switched from shuffle to repeat. My property is only a little less than a quarter of an acre and with the music pumping me up to a good pace I got the lawn done in record time~!
