Thursday Night Mowing League 2024: Week 12 -- Leaders Lead While On Vacation

The top ‘Top 5’ contenders could've been kicked out of the ‘Top 5’ for taking vacations, but they made great business decisions

Heading into Week 12, the league office was aware that several top contenders would be on vacation, including Diesel, who's been hot with his mower, and defending world champion Timmy2Cuts.

This wasn't the best time for 2Cuts to schedule a vacation. He was coming off a full-scale investigation into whether stock video footage was used to create a league-night mowing video. Was 2Cuts cheating the system? The investigation was inconclusive, but people are talking and there are questions about the validity of his 2Cuts operation.

Then he goes on vacation.

While Diesel has been consistent and easily having his best mowing season since joining the TNML, this is also his second vacation during the season. Yes, people are allowed to take vacations, but there's always some young gun Millennial looking to take out a Gen Xer like D.

Remember, the league is seeing a massive influx of Millennials who have somehow qualified to buy houses over the last 18 months. They've invested thousands into their operations, and they want credit for their mowing abilities.

Diesel could've said the hell with it, I'm going dark this week, but he didn't. That shows the league office that he has the drive, the will, the hunger to compete for a world championship.

These two showed the league that the TNML is more than just mowing the lawn. It's also about spreading the story of the league. It's about sharing the meaning of life each and every one of us gets from performing in this league.

Leaders lead.

Great leaders lead while on vacation.

I know, I know, I know…the entitled Gen Zers are going to get pissed over that statement. They're going to scream about how you should take six weeks of vacation when the company gives you five.

What those crybaby Gen Zers don't know is that in order to climb the mountaintop in the world of competitive residential mowing, you have to give 110%. You have to push forward when the daiquiri bar is calling. You have to think about your Top 5 position when you're stuck on a remote Bahamian island succin' down frozen rum runners.

These two understood the mission this week and it shows.

Your new Top 5, but there are at least 10 names who are in the mix for the world championship

It is up to all of us to tell Big Daddy Government to stay the hell out of our lives

While you were busy mowing and making your property beautiful, the losers and scumbags were wondering if they could sneak in rules on when you're allowed to mow.

League members, never give an inch!

BUY! BUY! BUY!

It's the Polo of the Summer. I wore mine today on the Dan Dakich show. It was so comfortable.

Mowing Reports From Around the United States and World!

- Benny in Yukon, OK emails:

A routine League night in Yukon. Weather was good, providing an easy mow. The #31 Leinenkugel Ego mower was efficient and steady this week.

89 degrees

Sunny, light NW breeze

A few Summer Shandy's provided refreshing hydration.

Chris Stapleton channel on the Sirius XM app provided the soundtrack.

Crew Chief report: mulching blades will require some sharpening this week.

Hope everyone had a great league night!! Keep the blades sharp and beer cold!!

- Sean C. in Granger, IN got it done:

How’s everyone’s grass growing the last few weeks? I’ve had ZERO sprinkler activity the last few weeks because of the strategically placed storms, and I’ve been having trouble keeping up. If I’m being honest, I’ve been on a Thursday/Monday schedule lately to keep the lawn from looking like an empty lot owned by the city.

With this usually being the hottest time of the year, we’re getting some mild temps, and the lawn looks as good as it has all year.

Also had a chance to take part in what has become an after-mowing tradition on Thursdays by going to the sand volleyball courts. Almost always sporting my TNML colors, I got in a conversation with a fellow and he asked about the TNML hat.

Before I could even start to explain, he said "I always mow on Thursday". I asked him why. He said, "to free up my weekend to do fun shit". I said, "you’re already a member and you didn’t even know it".

Cheers to another great mowing night!
