This Jurassic Park - Goonies - 'Newman' Theory Is Wild

Social media is besides itself today after a new theory regarding actor Wayne Knight's wardrobe similarities in Steven Spielberg's classics Jurassic Park and The Goonies is too coincidental to not be deliberate.

Let me explain.

Knight (also known as Newman to you Seinfeld folks) appears in Spielberg's 1993 classic Jurassic Park as Dennis Nedry, a dinosaur analyst who tries to steal some of the embryos. Spoiler alert: It doesn't go as planned and you most definitely won't ever look at a shaving cream can the same way you once did.

But a now viral tweet has fans collectively wondering if Spielberg deliberately had Knight's Jurassic Park outfits coincide with the cast of the 1985 hit film The Goonies. With Spielberg directing both iconic movies, was he trying to pay homage in a subdued manner?

Knight's three outfits that he wears as Nedry include a Hawaiian shirt, gray jacket and yellow raincoat.

In the earlier Goonies film, ‘Chunk’ wears a similar Hawaiian shirt, Corey Feldman as ‘Mouth’ wears an identical gray jacket while Sean Astin's ‘Mikey’ character is constantly running around in a, you guessed it - yellow raincoat.

Despite the revelation, Spielberg has never confirmed the odd coincidence in wardrobe choices. Fact-checking website Snopes.com has also been unable to verify if it was deliberate or not, leaving the theory as "Unproven," as of now.

For someone as brilliant as Steven Spielberg, who cares about every single minuscule detail in his films, it would seem that three outfits is a bit too much to just be random.

Regardless, this now gives you a reason to re-watch both classics the next rainy day, and be the coolest person at the bar when conversation runs dry!
