Reactions Pour In After Iconic Las Vegas Hotel Closes

The Mirage's epic Las Vegas run has finally concluded, and it's truly the end of an era.

The legendary Sin City resort closed in the early Wednesday morning hours after the last gamblers had been ushered out and the tables were shut down.

After 34 years of entertaining gamblers and guests, the iconic location will shut down until it reopens in 2027 as the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas and Guitar Hotel Las Vegas. The volcano show won't return when it reopens. It was fired up for the last time Tuesday night.

The Mirage closes after decades of dominating Las Vegas

For those of you who don't know, The Mirage was the first mega-resort on The Strip, and Steve Wynn's vision kicked off the mega-resort setup that everyone thinks of when talking about Vegas.

Without The Mirage, it's unclear whether The Strip would resemble anything like it does now. Wynn proved the mega-resort concept with a fun theme could work. The rest is history, and tributes are pouring in now that it has shut its doors.

It's hard to say you're a fan of Las Vegas without saying you're also a fan of The Mirage. There's so much incredible history tied to the property, and it was the home of Siegfried & Roy's tiger show and the dolphin habitat. It was simply one hell of an awesome place.

Now, it's been turned into a memory. A sign of what Vegas can be at its best. I only stayed at the Mirage once. It was back in 2021 and I somehow tripped my way into the penthouse for the stay.

Don't ask why they gave it to me. I'm still not sure I even know years later, but I'm not going to complain about it.

All I know is that it was a great place, and clearly, people are up in their feelings now that it's closed. If you told me four years ago that The Mirage wouldn't exist in 2024, I would have thought you were insane. Yet, here we are.
