Taylor Sheridan's New Series 'Landman' Gets Major Update

Cameras are officially rolling on Taylor Sheridan's new series "Landman."

There has been chatter and whispers surrounding the series with Billy Bob Thornton for well over a year, and fans of Sheridan's work finally have some progress after it was announced Tuesday that production is underway in Texas.

The plot of the series is described as, "Set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas, LANDMAN is a modern-day tale of fortune seeking in the world of oil rigs. Based on the notable 11-part podcast "Boomtown," the series is an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics."

Sound interesting? Well, if there's one thing we know about Sheridan it's that nobody does dark and gritty content like he does.

Taylor Sheridan's new show "Landman" starts production.

The man is responsible for the entire "Yellowstone" universe, "Wind River," "Mayor of Kingstown," two "Sicario" films, "Special Ops: Lioness," "Hell or High Water," "Tusla King," "Lawmen: Bass Reeves" and other major hits.

Now, he's bringing fans a series about oil kingpins starring Billy Bob Thornton. Say no more. Take the money for Paramount+ out of my wallet right now.

It's the exact kind of storyline Sheridan does perfectly. Anything involving corruption and characters who live in the gray area is something the "Yellowstone" creator was made to do.

Imperfect characters constantly balancing decisions that thread morality and ethics is a common theme in all of Sheridan's creations.

A story about oil and the battles around it couldn't be more perfect for him if you tried. It should be dark as all hell, and Thornton is the perfect kind of person to play a greasy oilman.

With production just starting, odds are we won't get "Landman" episodes until late 2024. It can't get here soon enough. Let me know your expectations at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
