Taylor Sheridan's New Series Lands Major Hollywood Star
Taylor Sheridan is stacking talent for his new show "Landman."
The plot of the upcoming Paramount+ show from the "Yellowstone" creator is described as, "Set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas, LANDMAN is a modern-day tale of fortune seeking in the world of oil rigs. Based on the notable 11-part podcast "Boomtown," the series is an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics."
As OutKick readers know, I'm a fanatic when it comes to Sheridan's work. The man only makes hits, and there's no doubt in my mind "Landman" will uphold his high standard of excellence.
The cast is also loaded with Billy Bob Thornton and Demi Moore. Well, the cast is now even stronger after the addition of Jon Hamm.
Jon Hamm joins cast of Taylor Sheridan's new show "Landman."
If you're going to go big, you might as well go as big as possible. That's exactly what Sheridan has done with "Landman" and the addition of Jon Hamm.
The star actor "will play Monty Miller, a titan of the Texas oil industry who has a long personal and professional relationship with Tommy Norris, played by Oscar® winner and series lead Billy Bob Thornton," according to a release from Paramount+.
A TV show having a core cast of Jon Hamm, Billy Bob Thornton and Demi Moore is unbelievably impressive. You don't really see that kind of name recognition on TV in the same show. It's really a testament to Sheridan's influence and power.
Whatever he makes moves the needle, and people want to get involved. Just look at some of his previous TV projects that locked down huge A-list stars:
- "Yellowstone" - Kevin Costner
- "1883" - Sam Elliott, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw
- "1923" - Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren
- "Mayor of Kingstown" - Jeremy Renner
- "Tulsa King" - Sylvester Stallone
- "Special Ops: Lioness" - Morgan Freeman, Nicole Kidman and Zoe Saldana
- "Landman" - Jon Hamm, Billy Bob Thornton and Demi Moore
Good luck finding anyone else who has put that kind of talent on TV. There's always one-offs like the first season of "True Detective" with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, but Sheridan does it again and again.
Hamm is without a doubt among the best additions. Everyone knows him from "Mad Men," but my favorite performance of his is easily "The Town." He's also awesome as a horrible FBI agent in "Richard Jewell."
It should be a ton of fun to see what he can do in "Landman." Hit me with your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
