Will 'Superbad' Get A Sequel? Film's Creator Gives Official Answer

Is "Superbad" due for a sequel?

Making reboots and sequels has become incredibly common in Hollywood. It seems like once a movie makes money, studios figure out a way to squeeze it for everything it's worth with a bunch of sequels, remakes and reboots. It's beyond frustrating, and it can sometimes fail in brutal ways.

The greatest example of a remake being an absolute abomination is the 2012 remake of "Red Dawn." That should have been enough of a warning sign to stop the trend from continuing. Unfortunately, it was not.

So, is the legendary coming of age comedy about three high school seniors trying to get booze and hook up with women before college going to get a sequel? Don't plan on seeing Jonah Hill, Michael Cera or anyone else ever return to do it again.

"Superbad" won't get a sequel.

"Superbad" writer and executive producer Evan Goldberg recently sat down with Complex for a lengthy interview, and was asked if there's a chance the legendary 2007 movie might have more story to tell.

"We're not opposed to revisiting some things, like Sausage Party. Superbad and Pineapple Express, we will not be revisiting. We will keep those safe and sound. There are a few things that are best left untouched," Goldbeg told Complex when asked about what movies might be revisited.

There you have it, folks. "Superbad" and "Pineapple Express" will never be touched, and as a massive fan of both, I think it's safe to say that's great news.

I'm happier about this news than I probably should be. I just can't even imagine "Superbad" getting a sequel and the legacy of the original possibly being ruined.

It's such an incredible comedy. It's the kind of comedy most in Hollywood are terrified of making because of the woke outrage mob. The entire movie is offensive from start to finish. It's wildly vulgar, and I absolutely love it.

At the end of the day, it's a story about three best friends trying to navigate the crazy world that is being a teenager, and it's told through a very R-rated lens.

In fact, it was also the first R-rated movie I ever saw in theaters. Wow, does that make me feel old.

Some movies should never be touched, and "Superbad" is right at the top of the list. It's still every bit as perfect in 2024 as it was in 2007. Leave it alone and let us continue enjoying it. Let me know your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
