‘Succession’ Season 3 to Premiere This Fall

"Finally," Americans said aloud.

HBO and HBO Max chief content officer Casey Bloys just told reporters that Succession will return this fall with its third season.

In addition, HBO released Season 3's official description:

"Ambushed by his rebellious son Kendall at the end of Season 2, Logan Roy begins Season 3 in a perilous position. Scrambling to secure familial, political, and financial alliances, tensions rise as a bitter corporate battle threatens to turn into a family civil war."

According to executive producer Georgia Pritchett, Succession's creator and showrunner Jesse Armstrong is eyeing a five-season run but could end the series after four.

In other words, expect a penultimate-style cliffhanger come Season 3's end.

Succession is arguably HBO's most popular current series. Annoyingly, because of pandemic delays, the series last aired a new episode in October 2019.

Critics at the Emmys in 2020 agreed, awarding Succession with the following:

It's exhausting just listing those awards and the word "Outstanding."

Netflix gets most of the attention, but HBO has a massive plan for the next 12 months.

Tuesday, HBO announced the Sopranos' prequel film, The Many Saints of Newark, will hit theaters and HBO Max on October 1. When was the last time a trailer was this good? 

Barry -- which I like better than Succession -- will return with its third season.

And at some point in 2022, HBO will go for the win with House of the Dragon, the Game of Thrones prequel series.
