Star Wars Releases First Scene For Upcoming "The Acolyte' Series
The first scene for the upcoming "Star Wars: The Acolyte" series has been released, and it's a fight choreographer's dream.
The 1:50 long clip, released exclusively to IGN, showcases Jedi Master Sol battling a warrior named Mae as the eight-episode series takes place during what many Star Wars fans consider the best part of the franchise's timeline - the High Republic era. For casual fans, that is about 100 years prior to Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.
The Acolyte will star actor Lee Jung-jae of Squid Game fame as Jedi Master Sol as he and other Jedi begin investigating a series of crimes that is sweeping across the Galaxy. However, as they will soon find out - the culprit is a former Padawan who branched off from finishing their studies of the Force.
STAR WARS: THE ACOLYTE DEBUTS JUNE 4 ON DISNEY+
Although fans were a bit skeptical when The Acolyte was first announced, today's release has come with some praise now that people get a firsthand taste of what they can expect as far as choreography and fight scenes go.
The question is of course, what about those that don't care about choreography and are more interested in the story? That remains to be seen.
As a pretty big Star Wars fan myself - not a diehard but not a casual either, I've had similar concerns that the franchise was going the way of Marvel Studios and becoming too over-saturated. All one has to do is look at Disney+ to see a number of Star Wars spin-offs. In addition to a number of animated series, since 2019 Disney+ has released live-action series such as The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor and Ahsoka.
Not all of which have been hits and the fact that we are two weeks away from The Acolyte being released and there not being a tremendous amount of buzz for it doesn't bode well.
But, then again, this is Star Wars and this is also the streaming era we live in. If enough people say a show is good and people need to watch it, the Internet will tune in - just as they did with The Mandalorian.
