Russell Wilson, Named 'Sexiest Man Of The Moment,' Talks 'Black Love'
Russell Wilson is BACK, baby! Oh, you thought Mr. Unlimited was checked out? Thought he didn't have anything else left in the tank? Washed up? Finished?
Think again, skeptics. Never, and I mean never, underestimate the guy who does airplane aerobics. He may go into hibernation for a while. He may take a few months off.
But he won't be down long before he checks back in with a humdinger, and Russell Wilson has once again proven he still has his fastball in 2024.
Here he is – the Sexiest man of the Moment, as named by Essence Magazine.
Russell Wilson continues to set the standard
Electric photoshoot here from Mr. Unlimited. Click the link and take a gander. Don't bother waiting to grab the print edition when it hits stores next month.
This deserves your time today. Right now.
We've got the fur coat, and then we've got the white tank underneath, complete with Russ showing off the guns on each arm.
Mix in the final photo – a inquisitive Russell Wilson staring into the camera like they just told him they yanked his Dangerwich from the Subway menu – and it's the full package.
Russ looks more determined than ever to continue being insufferable this year, even under the tutelage of Mike Tomlin, and I for one am HERE for it.
And just to make sure he left no doubt, he then provided a couple all-time quotes during his "Sexiest Man of the Moment" interview.
First up? How Russell Wilson apparently paved the way for Patrick Mahomes because he was a black quarterback who won the Super Bowl in 2013:
"For me to be able to go to back-to-back Super Bowls, and win one of them, I think opened up a lot of doors," he says. "Now you see guys like Patrick Mahomes who won it; it’s really just us so far, but there’s more to come.
"What I love to see is guys getting drafted early, and that a lot of teams these days have Black quarterbacks playing for them," Wilson says. "It’s all across the league, and it’s showing how the National Football League is starting to evolve, change and break down barriers.
"I think one of the biggest blessings of my career so far is that I’ve been fortunate to be able to open up doors for others, because of what others did for me."
Russ walked so Patrick Mahomes could run. Don't you ever forget it.
Finally, Essence ends the interview by commending Russ and Ciara for being inspirations for those who "celebrate Black love."
As ambitious as Wilson has been, family is the pillar in everything he does. His relationship with Ciara, to whom he’s been married since 2016, is an inspiration to those who celebrate Black love. The key to their success, he says, is prayer.
"When I asked her to marry me, once she said yes, I said, ‘Before we go do this, can we pray? I want to make sure we always put God at the center of it all,’" he recalls. "And so I think the thing that hopefully exudes from our love is that, listen, love is never perfect.
"But we continue to try to put God first and pray over each other. We have these four beautiful children that we get to raise every day and it’s the greatest gift in the world."
I'll be honest with you, I have no idea what black love is. Is that a term? I googled it and all I got was some show on Oprah Winfrey's network from years ago.
Anyway, all in all, this is a fantastic start the Russell Wilson-Pittsburgh era. Couldn't ask for much more, frankly.
Let's ride.
