Nearly a year after Riley Gaines was attacked after a speaking engagement at San Francisco State University, police have elected to suspend the investigation into the incident. Campus police barricaded her in a room for safety, where she was held for hours while protesters screamed outside the door. The angry mob tried to demand money for her release. "I told the police in the moment, there needs to be charges filed against anyone who's responsible," Gaines told OutKick. "I don't care if it's the police. I don't care if it's the school. I don't care if it's the individuals themselves. But whoever is responsible for me being held against my will — with my life and danger — deserves to be held accountable." Authorities have ignored Gaines' request with an email sent by Detective Corporal Thalya Fernandez dated February 2 informing her that charges would not be filed. "After a thorough investigation, the alleged charges are unfounded and have been suspended pending further lead," Fernandez wrote in the email obtained by OutKick. Fernandez was in the room with Gaines as the incident unfolded, which makes her statement about alleged charges being "unfounded" nothing short of ridiculous. EXCLUSIVE: Police Won't Bring Charges In Attack Against Riley Gaines At SFSU Gaines - host of OutKick's Gaines for Girls podcast - joined Don't @ Me with Dan Dakich on Thursday and shared her reaction to authorities suspending the investigation into the matter. "It's absolutely, what I would say is disgusting, I would say it's disgraceful, I would say that it set a terrible precedent," Gaines began. "Not just for conservatives, not just for conservative speakers on college campuses which was the setting where I was attacked. No, this sets a terrible precedent for every single person, every single human because what the police department, the Department of Justice…The message that's being relayed here is that our Department of Justice can't condemn violence against women and doesn't uphold our First Amendment rights." On Feb. 6, Gaines responded to Fernandez's email stating that the investigation was suspended with a folder full of photos and videos — reminding her that "the evidence is overwhelming and compelling that crimes have been committed." Officer Fernandez has not since responded.
