Racist Sign Refusing Service Posted At Popeyes Drive-Thru

On Wednesday, a Popeyes restaurant in Lake Saint Louis, Missouri was at the forefront of controversy when a sign posted on the drive-thru speaker displayed a racist remark.

The drive-thru sign read: "Effective 6-1-21 This restaurant is under new management and will reserve the right to refuse service to white people. We apologize for any inconvenience. Signed, General Manager, Mason."

The incident has been opened as an investigation after a report from the local police department indicated that the employees of the restaurant were not involved with the sign's posting.

"Today, unknown subjects posted an inappropriate sign on the drive-thru window, unbeknownst to the business," announced the Lake Saint Louis Police Department.

Also noted by the department, there had been prior vandalism that included "shattered glass and obscene messages painted on the restaurant's drive-thru menu" observed from the surveillance footage provided by the restaurant. After discovering the sign, the establishment was forced to close for the day.

KTVI-TV received an official response from Popeye's condemning the racist post:

"We have been made aware of the situation and are investigating the matter immediately. This type of behavior does not align with our brand values and we take such allegations very seriously. The franchise is cooperating with local authorities regarding this ongoing investigation."
