Hero Who Helped Stop Kansas City Shooting Shares Incredible Insight On The Carnage

Paul Contreras didn't hesitate to drop an alleged gunman at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade.

Chaos erupted Wednesday in Kansas City after one person was killed and more than 20 were injured in a shooting that unfolded at the parade. Three people were detained, but further details about the motive and identities of the possible suspects remain unknown.

One of the most stunning and incredible moments from the carnage was when video surfaced showing random people taking down one of the alleged men involved. Now, Paul Contreras has opened up about why he intervened, and the man has guts of steel.

"I'm right here, and I just...I didn't think about it. Just a reaction. I didn't hesitate. Just do it. So, I went to go tackle him and another gentleman did the same thing. And, as I'm tackling him, I see his weapon either fall out of his hand or out of his sleeve because he was wearing a long jacket or a Carhart. So, when I see that hit the ground, I'm like, ‘Oh, you know, we got to take this guy down,’" Contreras explained in an interview with KETV.

Hero. An absolute hero. Check out the incredible interview below, and let me know what you think at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.

Bystanders stepped up to stop Kansas City shooting.

I've already said it and I'll keep saying it because it can't be said enough. The reaction time of police officers and random civilians in the area of the parade is nothing short of wildly impressive.

There are a lot of people who love to talk tough about what they'd do when bullets start flying. They think life is an action movie. It's not, and you have no idea how you'll react until you're in a potentially deadly situation.

What I can tell you is hesitation gets you killed. It's one of the core training elements of Tier One military training. You have to make a decision and execute, and you had better be ready to make that decision in a fraction of a second. Most people freeze, but not Paul Contreras. He saw violence unfolding, quickly assessed there was an armed man in the area and immediately dropped him with the help of another man.

It's moments like these and guys like Paul that really should make us all proud to be Americans. In what was a horrifying and deadly moment, a couple of random citizens stepped up, put their lives in danger and took out the alleged bad guy. Some people are just cut from a different kind of cloth, and something tells me Paul Contreras has a gunfighter mentality in his spirit.
