One Of The Best Shows On TV Returns For Epic Second Season: REVIEW

Season two of "Outer Range" is absolutely incredible.

As I wrote a few days ago, the show starring Josh Brolin returned for its second season this past Thursday on Amazon after wrapping up season one in May 2022.

The series centers on the Abbott family and the fight to protect their massive ranch. It's "Yellowstone" combined with "Stranger Things," and I say that as a major compliment.

Fans craved new episodes for two years. That's a hell of a wait. The premiere was amazing, and after crushing the rest of the season, I'm ready to dive in.

"Outer Range" season two is outstanding.

*WARNING: THERE WILL BE SOME SPOILERS BELOW*

One of the major reveals at the end of season one was that Autumn was Amy grown up, and in the closing moments of season one, Amy was taken by her missing mother Rebecca.

Season two really pulls back the curtain even more on the mystery that is Autumn/Amy. Where did she come from? How did Amy go from being the young innocent child we knew in season one to the absolute headcase that is Autumn? How did she travel through time?

I don't want to say too much, but Imogen Poots deserves amazing recognition for her performance as Autumn. Just a simply unreal showing from her in season one and two. Her ability to make your skin crawl is second to none.

One of the main focuses - if not the main focus - is really exploring all the different time-traveling timelines. I have to be careful here because I really don't want to ruin anything. Here's what I will say. There are *MULTIPLE* timelines that emerge, including one with a young Royal Abbott.

Who is with young Royal Abbott? A young Wayne Tillerson and a young Cecilia, but not in the way fans might be expecting! There's also another person with them, but I'll leave that as a surprise.

There's also other timelines, including Royall as a little kid in the 1800s. Remember the story of how he killed his dad in a hunting accident?

Well, buckle up because you have no idea what's coming. One of the best plot developments I've seen in a long time in any series.

More than anything, "Outer Range" continues to prove what TV can be at its best. Josh Brolin is excellent as Royal Abbott, and the outstanding elements trickle down from there. The mystery of what the hell is going on is deep, engaging and, honestly, addicting.

On the surface, it seems like "Outer Range" is a western about a family fighting the forces against them. That's true, but in reality, it's one of the most complex sci-fi mysteries imaginable, and it spans different centuries.

It also has one of the most unique season finales I've seen in a long time. Remember earlier when I talked about a bunch of different timelines? Yeah, don't forget that when watching.

Overall, "Outer Range" season two was everything we all hoped it would be, and that's about as much as I can say without spoiling anything major. I give it a very solid 8.5/10. Now, we wait for season three! Let me know your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
