The Playoffs are here
The NBA and NHL playoffs have arrived. While it's far too early to tell which teams are going to be contending for a title, it's not too early for New York Knicks fans to bust out one of their celebrations in the streets.
That's right, Knicks fans took to the streets to celebrate a first-round Game 1 win over the Philadelphia 76ers. They won the game 111-104 with a strong 4th quarter performance and then fans celebrated as if they had won a title.
There's no need to rain too hard on their parade. It's really only a matter of time before it all comes crashing down and Knicks fans are doing anything but celebrating.
Like I said, it's far too early to figure which teams are going to be the ones left standing. There are always teams that choke and a surprise or two that makes it further than expected.
Over on the frozen pond, the NHL got their playoffs started with a couple of first-round games on Saturday with the Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs facing off in one matchup and the Carolina Hurricanes and New York Islanders in the other.
As far as I know, there weren't any fan bases hitting the streets Knicks-style to celebrate a Game 1 win. I didn't see any clips of that making the rounds anyway.
What I did see is some good old-fashioned playoff hockey. A Bruins player feeding an opponent to his teammates by knocking him into the bench with a solid hit.
This is hands down the best time of year for hockey. The game is turned up in all respects and the result is the best version of hockey that exists.
Strap in because the playoffs are just getting started. There's going to be big hitting and likely a viral moment involving a busty fan or two at some point.
That's just what happens during playoff hockey.
Ryan Garcia hands Devin Haney his first loss
Ryan Garcia entered the ring on Saturday night at the Barclays Center as the underdog. He left it with a majority decision under his belt having handed WBC junior welterweight champion Devin Haney his first loss.
This despite a wild few weeks leading up to the fight. The 25-year-old started and ended a relationship with an OnlyFans model leading up to this fight. He then, out of nowhere, claimed to be engaged to an adult film star.
Garcia's erratic behavior prior to the fight wasn't limited to his personal life either. An intense face-off with Haney on top of the Empire State Building led the Mets to cancel the two boxers' scheduled first pitch prior to a game last week.
That's not all. Garcia then took himself out of contention for Haney's WBC junior welterweight belt when he missed weight by weighing in at 143.2 pounds for the 140-pound bout.
All of that and Garcia still went out and dropped Haney three times during the 12-round fight.
Garcia topped off his night with a little fun at the end of the fight. He was fairly confident at this point, with the three knockdowns, that he had done enough to win.
It turns out he was right when it went to the judges' scorecards. Although, it wouldn't be boxing without one of the judges handing in a 112-112 score.
That judge must have been watching a different fight. The other two went with 114-110 and 115-109 scores for a majority victory.
That's one that they're going to want to run back. Haney isn't going to like having that unavenged L on his record and Garcia is going to want to prove he can make weight and beat the champion.
Good luck to both of them. Hopefully we'll see a second fight between the two of them.
An Indiana woman calls the cops because of bad meth
An alleged bad batch of meth caused an Indiana woman to call the cops on her drug dealer. Sarah Harris, 34, called 911 in an attempt to press charges against her drug dealer because the batch of meth she received was "not what it was supposed to be."
After she and a friend "smoked a bowl of normal meth," she bought the bad batch. The bad batch of meth left her feeling as if she was going to have a heart attack.
She explained to officers that she had snorted a line of it and felt "something different when it touched her skin and nostrils." The brilliant decision, fueled by meth, to call the police in order to report her drug dealer for supplying her with a bad batch, of course, ended with her being arrested.
Harris had handed over a baggie with the bad meth in it and was subsequently charged with possession of meth, a Class 6 felony. As you might expect, this isn't her first run-in with the law.
She has several convictions on her record for everything from theft to meth possession. You think she would have known better, but there's always the possibility that the bad batch made her do it.
In any event, if you find yourself in a similar situation, the police aren't who you call if you feel you've received a bad batch. It turns out you're kind of on your own with that problem.
That's all I've got for this Sunday. Throw on some playoff basketball and/or hockey, grab a few drinks, and enjoy what's left of the weekend.
