Nikki And Brie Garcia, Formerly Known As The Bella Twins, Say Working At Hooters Prepared Them For The WWE
Nikki and Brie Garcia might have parted ways with the name The Bella Twins after retiring from the WWE and undergoing a rebranding last year.
The rebrand doesn't mean they're not down to talk about wrestling or any other jobs they've held in the past, for that matter. The 40-year-old entrepreneurs, known now as The Garcia Twins, who host a podcast called The Nikki & Brie Show did just that this week when they sat down for an interview with the NY Post.
Two of their seemingly unrelated jobs, one as a wrestler and the other as a Hooters waitress, actually are more connected than you would think. Believe it or not, their days of slinging wings at the age of 19 in San Diego helped them with wrestling.
"Working there, you really owned your feminine energy. As a waitress, you have to have confidence to go up to strangers and talk. But we had to have thick skin and not only confidence, but you had to own it," Brie told the NY Post.
"You’re going up to men who are excited and want to get crazy. So we knew how to keep them in line … and we all set boundaries for ourselves … and didn’t take any crap from our customers."
She continued, "So it really taught me at a young age just to stand up for myself and to own it, own the room and own a table. And I think it really helped me with pro wrestling to take that attitude into that."
From Hooters Girls To WWE Hall Of Famers
Who knew there was a path from Hooters waitress to WWE Divas Champions and one of the most recognizable tag teams of all-time? That path existed for a pair of identical twins if for nobody else.
The sisters also learned valuable ways of marketing that had to have helped them when they stepped into the ring. Nikki shared one of those tricks of the trade, "Squeezing your cleavage. You’d be like, ‘Do you want more fries with that?’"
A classic Hooters waitress move. Speaking of classic moves, Brie had a few more to share during the very important mention of their Hooters waitressing past.
She said, "Yeah, we got really creative. Like with the lingo, even just saying, 'I hope you had a Hooter-fic time. You just came up with this really cheeky verbiage as waitresses there. And let’s be honest, everyone loves seeing the Hooters girls doing the YMCA and hula hoop - tips were going up."
There's a valuable lesson to be learned from The Garcia Twins. You never know when skills like keeping customers in line, squeezing your cleavage to upsell, and even doing the YMCA or being able to hula hoop will come in handy at a future job.
Try to be observant while you work. Take note of the skills you can take with you, and who knows, you too could wind up as a hall of famer one day.
