Man Urinates In Cup On Australian Flight, But Cut Him Some Slack, He Was In A Window Seat
We all know some crazy things happen on flights, and more often than not, the antics of those airborne that we see in viral videos are indefensible.
However, now and then someone gets in trouble, but sometimes there seems to be more to the story.
In my opinion, that's the case with a 53-year-old man who peed in a cup on an Air New Zealand flight from Auckland, New Zealand to Sydney, Australia.
New Zealand website Stuff reported the details from the point of view of the woman who reported it, identified as Holly.
Now, here's the sentence that made me know all was not as it seemed: "She said she and her 15-year-old daughter were sitting in the aisle and middle seats when the man in the window seat, whose name has not been released, was urinating in a cup."
The second I saw this headline floating around, I said to myself, "I bet that guy had a window seat." Sure enough, he did.
I like the window seat just fine, but if you're a frequent urinator it's an issue. If he was in any other seat, I would find this behavior abhorrent.
But in a window seat… I can see how you could get to that point.
There was another factor at play in the incident. This occurred when the plane was sitting on the tarmac in Sydney after a three-hour flight.
Are you starting to see why I don't condone this man's actions, but understand them… a little.
A Quiet Plane Was The Man's Undoing
Since they were just sitting on the tarmac, the pilot turned the engines off making for a nice quiet environment, perfect for giving away the fact that the man was peeing in a cup.
"We heard him do it [urinate]. There was no mistaking what the sound was and I just looked straight at my daughter and my daughter looked straight at me. It was very obvious what was happening."
However, according to Holly's account of the incident, the man was "obviously quite drunk." The only piece of evidence to support this was that she said he accidentally sloshed some urine on a flight attendant while leaving the plane with Australian Federal Police officers.
Alright… so maybe she was onto something.
The police also put out a statement concerning the incident confirming that they had removed the man because he "urinated into a cup while in his seat."
The incident — happened in December and the man was fined six hundred dollars ($395 US), but the details weren't available until now.
I'm glad to hear this guy got off with a fine. It's easy to pass judgment until you're in his position; trapped on an airplane with a bladder that's about to explode.
