Man Jumps Off Of Boat To Avoid Arrest & Avoid Giving His Girlfriend His Phone's Passcode

So much for a relaxing day on the water with his girlfriend for this Florida man.

The day on his buddy's boat took an unfortunate turn when two female Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission officers pulled up next to the boat and started asking questions.

They were in the area looking for something else when they noticed the man and his girlfriend.  As they made their way over to the small boat, they took note of the code violations onboard.

The man, who identified himself to officers as AJ, isn't happy with the arrival of the two officers.  He starts out mildly agitated, then gets increasingly argumentative when the possibility that he has an outstanding warrant is mentioned.

During the exchange with officers, he makes it clear that he doesn't want to go to jail.  He contemplates jumping into the ocean and swimming away.  The officers inform him that he'll be adding a felony charge to his warrant issues.

Adding A Felony Was Apparently Worth Not Giving His Girlfriend Access To His Phone

After learning that his bond is $3,000 for the warrant, he lets them know he's going to jump in the water and swim home.  One of the officers boards the boat to place AJ in handcuffs.

At this time, his girlfriend starts asking him for the passcode to his phone so that she can get in contact with someone who can help.  He wasn't about to be placed in cuffs or give up the passcode.

The request by his girlfriend for access to his phone cemented the fact that he was going to make a swim for it.  He hops off the boat and starts to swim to the shore.  Despite the doubts of the officers, AJ swims almost the entire way back to shore.

The two female officers are able to arrest him when he reaches shallow waters. They then escort him on foot the rest of the way to the shore to pass him off to waiting officers.

There's a chance that he would have gone with the officers willingly.  That went completely out the window with the girlfriend's request for the passcode.

If the outstanding warrant wasn't enough of a red flag, then taking a felony instead of giving her access to his phone should do it.
