Lawmaker Apologizes For Continually Pouring Water On Opponent's Belongings
A Vermont state representative has apologized after getting caught on hidden camera repeatedly harassing her political opponent by constantly pouring water into his bags.
"It was conduct most unbecoming of my position as a representative and as a human being and is not reflective of my 28 years of service and civility that I do value toward my colleagues," Rep. Mary Morrissey admitted to colleagues during a Vermont House floor session earlier this week.
HARASSMENT WENT ON FOR MONTHS
Morrissey had been accused of harassing Rep. Jim Carroll by taking bottles of water and pouring them into his tote bag and other belongings that were hung up outside various Capital conference rooms. What started as a few times a week earlier this year eventually became a daily occurrence of Carroll grabbing his belongings only to see that all of his stuff was drenched. It was not until Carroll purchased and hid a $23 camera that he caught Rep. Morrissey as the water-pouring culprit. Then the female legislator admitted she was in the wrong.
"For five months, I went through this," Carroll told fellow lawmakers. "And each time, each day I went through this, Representative Morrissey had a choice to make and each time she didn’t choose to either drop it or to come to me and say look I’m sorry," he continued. He would eventually take the spy camera footage and show the House Speaker, who then confronted Morrissey over her actions.
PETTY POLITICIANS
First off, this is a wild story that goes to show that even our ‘fearless leaders’ can be just as petty as the rest of us - sometimes even more! Is there really anything more juvenile than pouring water on someone's stuff? And not only do it once - but eventually EVERY DAY for weeks on end? That's a straight-up psycho move.
But the fact that the 62-year-old Carroll didn't do anything about it for weeks is wild. Dude is a living example of Charlie Brown meets Eeyore. Just every day, showing up to work knowing that he's going to get picked on by someone and not do anything about it is a weak move as well. If Carroll can't fight for himself, how is he going to fight for the people of Vermont?
"I have given my sincere apology to Jim directly and publicly and will be working towards resolution and restoration through our legislative process," Morrissey added as she tries to move on after getting caught.
It's now up to her colleagues to determine her fate and if they put enough pressure on her to step down, or slip on by.
