Larry David Didn't Mind Being Uninvited To Barack Obama's Party
After having his invitation to Barack Obama's 60th birthday party rescinded, Larry David was feeling "Prett-Ay, Prett-Ay, Prett-Ay Good." The Curb Your Enthusiasm star told the New York Times: "I was so relieved I screamed, ‘Thank you! Thank you!' "
Obama caught heat for his "do as I say, not as I do" party plans, so he trimmed his guest list from hundreds to, well, probably still hundreds - with the exception of a few previously invited guests, such as David.
A first ballot Hall of Famer in avoiding awkward situations, David wasn't concerned about being forced to make small talk over hors d'oeuvres. The comedian/actor/director/writer, was worried that the former Commander in Chief would ask him to perform a comedy routine at the birthday bash: "I was pretty glum when I finally called back his assistant (to confirm his attendance)."
Feeling unprepared, David's fears turned to jeers when he learned he was nixed from the exclusive shindig: "When he told me I was eighty-sixed from the party, I was so relieved I screamed, ‘Thank you! Thank you!’ He must have thought I was insane. Then I hung up the phone, poured myself a drink and finished my crossword puzzle."
With Larry David on the sidelines, the funniest thing about Obama's party were the hundreds of maskless attendees pretending to be concerned with COVID.
