King Charles Big-Timing Prince Harry Is Simultaneously The Saddest And Most Hilarious Thing Ever

There aren't a lot of news stories that give me conflicting emotions the way Prince Harry having to put out a statement saying his old man, King Charles, is too busy to see him did.

One side of my brain wanted to give Harry a pat on the back and take him down to the batting cages to get some cuts in and take his mind off things. Maybe get some Italian ice afterward.

As for the other side of my brain, it wanted to crack up laughing at the fact that the King of England used the same excuse we all have to get out of plans, and did it to his own kid.

What a cocktail of emotions.

Prince Harry's camp released a statement to Page Six after reports were making the rounds that the King is too busy with his kingly duties to meet with his son.

"In response to the many inquiries and continued speculation on whether or not the duke will meet with his father while in the UK this week, it unfortunately will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full program," a spokesperson for Prince Harry told the outlet.

Oof. That, of course, is incredibly sad. Clearly, there's a major rift within the Royal Family, and while most of us don't care one iota about the Royal Family, it's still a family, and watching them go through the same troubles a lot of people go through is a bummer.

But…

…the King of England using the oldest excuse in the book to get out of plans is hilarious.

Maybe the King is busy. He's got a lot going on as of late, and I'm sure he doesn't have a lot of free time.

But do you know who can get out of plans when his son comes to town? The King.

I've used this exact same move over the years to get out of things. You just sound exasperated and talk about how crazy everything is lately.

"Oh man, I'm sorry I'd love to hang out with you," I lie. "I've just got so much going on… it's pretty crazy honestly, but I'm super blessed though too… at the same time."

Meanwhile, I'm just watching Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes, sipping a beer, and throwing a toy to my dog.

I'm sure the King has a bit more than that going on, but it's definitely weird he didn't have the time to offer Harry a dignified nod or spot of tea.
