'Yellowstone' Fans Melt Down After Kevin Costner Officially Quits Series

"Yellowstone" fans are *NOT* happy with the state of the series following Kevin Costner's exit.

Costner announced late last week that his time on the show had officially come to an end. He's focusing on his new film series "Horizon: An American Saga," and that means fans won't be seeing him on the hit show from Taylor Sheridan.

The initial reactions from fans were people wishing him well on Instagram. Well, someone turned up the heat in the kitchen because the internet is popping right now.

"Yellowstone" fans rage after Kevin Costner leaves the show.

The show's subreddit page is one fire with plenty of takes about the man responsible for playing John Dutton leaving the show.

Check out some of the reactions below, and hit me with your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com:

  • Yellowstone without Costner is going to be like The Office without Carell.
  • Not even close. At least Carell got a send off and it built up to it. This is like if Michael quit Dunder Mifflin and got written off the show.
  • I’ll just pretend he died when he got shot a dozen times in rural Montana.
  • I think it would be hilarious if they just retconned it and everyone on the cast pretended like he died on the highway shot up and just gaslit the audience lol.
  • There is no Yellowstone without him.
  • Taylor Sheridan really shows his true colors.
  • End the show. House of cards sucked when they lost their lead.
  • Okay so John is clearly going to die off screen and we deal with the ramifications of it.
  • How the f*ck, as a production company or storyteller or writer, do you manage to exclude the most important character at the end of your story???? This is a story about the DUTTON family but it all starts with JOHN DUTTON because he carries the weight of maybe losing the ranch, as all of his ancestors did. There are no excuses, this is just awful.
  • Very disappointing.
  • This is like if Seinfeld left his show and they tried to do the last season without him. This isn't going to end well. The stories become kinda irrelevant without the Patriarch running the ranch.
  • Sheridan is gonna sink the whole thing. When this all went down he was involved with 2 movies and no less than 6 shows. In many cases acting as writer, creator, producer, show runner, and director. Dude needs to learn to delegate.
  • Yellowstone better not turn out like the last season of Game of Thrones.
  • Hear me out, recast John Dutton with Reba McIntyre but no one acknowledges the actor change.
  • Taylor Sheridan is such trash. This feud should have never reached the press at all.

The hit neo-Western series returns November 10th on the Paramount Network, and I'm guessing this is more or less the vibe and tone fans will have until then.

A lot of people believe the rest of the fifth and final season is going to be very disappointing, and I don't blame anyone for feeling that way.

Is the rest of the cast very strong and talented? Yes, but Costner was literally the face of the show. Pretty much every major plot stems from John Dutton and his decisions.

Now, Costner is gone and I seriously have no idea how Taylor Sheridan is going to be able to write him off in a way fans enjoy.

There's going to be serious skepticism about "Yellowstone" until fans get some new episodes and can gauge the quality. Will Sheridan impress all? It's definitely possible, but nobody is buying it until it happens. Let me know what you think about the future of the show is a post-Costner era at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
