Kevin Costner Announces 'Yellowstone' Fate, Fans React

Kevin Costner is *OFFICIALLY* done with "Yellowstone."

There's been chatter for more than a year about Costner's fate on the hit series created by Taylor Sheridan. I've said for a long time it's very unlikely he will return.

The biggest indication he wouldn't was the fact production started without him. The star actor has been focused on his new film series "Horizon: An American Saga," and that's where his attention is going to stay.

Kevin Costner says he's not coming back to "Yellowstone."

After nonstop drama and speculation, Costner made it clear he's done with "Yellowstone" and his focus is making his movies.

"I'm just not going to be able to continue season 5B or into the future. It was something that really changed me. I loved it, and I know you loved it. And I just wanted to let you know I won't be returning. And, I love the relationship we've been able to develop, and I'll see you at the movies," Costner said in a Thursday night Instagram video.

Naturally, fans were not happy, and I don't blame them at all. Check out some of the responses on his video below:

  • Huge loss for Yellowstone and Taylor Sheridan. YOU made the show! You brought the audience. It won’t be the same without you in it.
  • Well, this really really breaks my heart. There’s no Yellowstone without you, Sir.
  • That was kind of you to let the fans know about the status of Yellowstone true gentleman through and through and thoughtful to his fans.
  • "Yellowstone" won’t be the same without you. Ultimately, you have to do what’s best for you. I look forward to seeing all chapters of "Horizon".
  • Everything has its time, and I have enjoyed and admired the character in Yellowstone. We continue with Horizon.
  • Yellowstone will not be the same without you sir. Going to miss seeing you on that show.

Well, there's the ballgame, folks. I've been telling you all to start mentally preparing for this for a very long time, and here we are.

Kevin Costner's time as John Dutton has come to an end, and you're hearing it directly from him. It's no longer sources and speculation.

The good news is I believe Taylor Sheridan can still put together a solid ending. Will fans get the one he probably originally wanted to deliver? No, but the rest of the cast is still very strong. This is disappointing, but we now move onward and upward. "Yellowstone" returns November 10th, and I'll be watching. Make sure to let me know your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
