Kelly Osbourne Hopes That Her Past History With Substance Addiction Has 'Embalmed' Her From Getting Cancer

Kelly Osbourne feels like she’s lowered her chances of getting cancer, but through a rather peculiar method.

The 39-year-old daughter of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne was speaking on an episode of "The Osbournes Podcast," in which members of the family (along with Kelly’s brother, Jack) discuss their Emmy Award-winning series of the same name. One of the topics that came up in the most recent episode was Kelly’s battle with drug and alcohol abuse.

In some form or another, she has struggled with substance addictions since she was 13. She’s been very open about her struggles and been sober for the better part of the past seven years (despite a brief relapse in 2021). In all honesty, that’s great for her.

"This is something I am going to battle for the rest of my life," she said in 2021. "It’s never going to be easy."

She is hoping that there is a bright side to her struggles, albeit it's a very ill-founded hope. Osbourne hopes that her substance addictions have reduced her chances of getting cancer.

"I’m hoping that I’ve embalmed myself so I don’t ever get cancer," Osbourne said. "I’m pickled from all the drugs and alcohol, for sure."

Cancer unfortunately runs in her family (Sharon had colon cancer in 2002), so she has more reason than most that she doesn’t suffer the same fate. In response, Jack said on the podcast what everyone who listened was thinking.

"I don’t think it works that way," he replied. "But I’m no doctor."

There are other ways that you can change your diet and lifestyle to help prevent cancer, which Kelly has done. But that’s the only positive element that can come from her past history from addiction.
