Clutch Kansas Freshman Won $19k With Halfcourt Shot On Live TV

Ellie McCarville is already a legend at the University of Kansas, and she's only a freshman.

McCarville had eight balls and 20 seconds to make the half-court shot, with a $19,000 check from State Farm on the line. But she didn't need eight balls. This girl walked up there and — like an absolute boss — sank it on the first try. Jayhawk fans (and everyone on the court with her) lost their minds.

Watch:

And the best part? She did it on live television. ESPN's College GameDay was on hand to cover the match-up between the No. 4 Jayhawks and the No. 13 Baylor Bears.

Rece Davis congratulated her — even though she took away all the drama by draining the first shot. But McCarville was laser focused on the game ahead.

"Rock chalk, let's get this dub today," she yelled into the cameras.

And they did, indeed, get that dub. Despite injury and illness depleting the roster, Kansas held on for an ugly 64-61 win over Baylor at Allen Fieldhouse — keeping their dream of a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament alive.

McCarville isn't a complete beginner, by the way. The 19-year-old played high school basketball at Millard North High School in Omaha, Neb., where she averaged 11.52 points and five rebounds per game.

"Basketball is my passion and I want to work as hard as I can to play it as long as I can, but I am also realistic," she said.

And because she's realistic (knowing WNBA players don't really make money), McCarville is majoring in aerospace engineering.
