JetBlue Plane Tips Backward At JFK Airport
Add this to the list of travel nightmares you never want to experience.
A JetBlue plane was parked at the gate at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport Sunday night when the Airbus suddenly popped a wheelie — tipping back until its nose reached skyward and its tail hit the ground.
"Once at the gate, due to a shift in weight and balance during deplaning, the tail of the aircraft tipped backward causing the nose of the aircraft to lift up and eventually return back down," JetBlue spokesman Derek Dombrowski said.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported. But passengers undoubtedly got a shock after a long flight in from Bridgetown, Barbados.
Passenger Details Awful JetBlue Experience
TikToker Sinead Bovell was seated near the back of the airplane when it tipped, and she shared her experience with her followers.
"The plane abruptly tipped backwards so quickly and intensely that the tail of the plane hit the pavement," Bovell said. "The jet bridge and part of the plane door broke. Airport crew said they heard on their walkie talkies the nose of the plane is 10 feet in the air."
Then, the flight crew asked the passengers to help tip the plane back in the other direction as if it were the world's largest teeter-totter.
"We had to strategically re-balance the plane, which is why I'm now at the front. Which was also scary because it tipped back down," Bovell explained. "And they tried to start fixing this but also told us to watch out and move back. We all just panicked and had enough, and we said, 'wait 'til we get off.' And we had to strategically exit the plane two rows at a time, take a break, two rows at a time, take a break."
Not sure how this could have possibly happened, given that deplaning is pretty standard procedure that happens with every single flight.
Regardless, I hope JetBlue compensated the passengers. Or at least gave them a drink voucher. Because they definitely needed one after that.
