Jelly Roll Credits Marijuana For Keeping Him 'Sober From Harder Drugs'

There's been no bigger rise to stardom than country rap singer Jelly Roll.

In the last few years, the once-imprisoned felon who turned his life around thanks to what he credits as God's grace, has released three No. 1 singles on Billboard's Country charts, and is well on his way to another one.

But beyond the power of God and his wife, podcast influencer Bunnie XO, Jelly Roll credits another thing for saving him: Marijuana.

"I get in trouble for this, all the time, but my stance on marijuana will always be the same: I believe marijuana has helped me in so many regards, with my anxiety. This is a hot button topic, but, truly, marijuana has kept me sober," the star musician told Taste of Country

JELLY ROLL'S RISE TO STARDOM

The 39-year-old Need a Favor singer added that without the green ganja, he would be back doing harder drugs and would be in a much more dangerous place.

"I think a world without weed, Jelly Roll's drinking codeine and popping Xanax and snorting cocaine again, but a world with weed, I'll be alright." Jelly went on to admit that his personal treatment option may not be for everyone, especially those dealing with addiction.

"I know that I have friends that don't do that [use marijuana]. I have friends that are in the program that are totally against any kind of mind-altering anything. I respect that. I have so much respect for those people. That's just not how my sobriety worked out."

In 2002, Jelly Roll was arrested and served time after being convicted of felony robbery and drug charges. He has used that downfall to change his life around and inspire others.

JELLY ROLL'S CHARITY WORK

Regardless what one may think of marijuana, honestly, if it's what Jelly Roll credits for helping him not fall back into past demons, then more power to him. Twenty four states have already decriminalized it, with another seven states considering similar steps. Personally, I think there should be some regulations - I don't think people should be stoned while driving or using heavy machinery, and the younger you are, the more negative effects it can have - psychosis, etc.. But overall, this is weed we're talking about.

And if it's helped Jelly become the person who he is today and helps his anxiety, then so be it.

Jelly Roll has literally become an inspiration to millions of people

You might not know this - but he goes to a local jail before almost every single concert he performs in the city he's on tour in that day. Using his own experiences, he tries to motivate people to focus on themselves and get better so when they are released they can embrace their new life and the opportunities they are given.

You can see Jelly Roll on a number of shows this coming summer as he travels the country and eventually gears up for an upcoming album.
