'House Of The Dragon' Star Had A Great Time Making Her 'Animalistic' Sex Scene
Does anything in this world mesh quite like Game of Thrones/House of the Dragon and sex? The answer is no. Some may argue PB & J. Others may go with spaghetti and meatballs. I'd even take cold beer and the golf course under heavy consideration.
But, at the end of the day, the GOT universe and uncomfortable sex scenes – oftentimes between siblings – is America's bread and butter (hey, that's another one!).
It's been a staple in this country for the better part of a decade, and one I think – on some level – we all somewhat look forward to on Sunday nights.
Which makes this decision by House of the Dragon Ryan Condal even more puzzling:
House of the Dragon's Olivia Cooke deserved better
"It was messy as f--k. It wasn’t beautiful, and that was really fun to do," Cooke said in an interview with Elle. "I think Ryan [Condal, the showrunner] said we weren’t learning any more about the characters, which I disagree with slightly, but it’s okay. It’s his show."
"I thought there’d be way more, and so I’m relieved that when it has been used for me, it’s showing Alicent being pleasured, which is amazing and doesn’t feel gratuitous," she said. "It feels like we’re telling a story."
I mean, I don't know – seems like a pretty big fumble if you ask me. If Olivia Cooke, who plays Alicent Hightower, wanted one of her ‘animalistic, messy as f--k’ sex scenes included in the show, I feel like you go ahead and listen. Pretty simple.
Now, I know House of the Dragon made it clear a few years back that the sex scenes in this one wouldn't be quite as jarring as its predecessor. That's fine. Remember how Game of Thrones started? With the brother and sister banging each other and then murdering the kid? Still one of the craziest pilot episodes of all time.
So, I get not going that far. But this is still in the GOT universe. We're all, after all, watching because we were/are GOT fans (minus Season 8, of course). So, on some level, we expect "animalistic" sex scenes.
Oh well. Swing and a miss. Maybe next time. Thanks for the effort, though, Livvy!
