Good News! Billy Joel's Concert Will Be Aired Again This Friday...With No Interruptions
Everybody loves an encore, and Billy Joel fans will get theirs after being robbed by CBS of the chance to sing along with the piano man.
Last night, the network aired a recording of "The 100th: Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden" concert, which was the music legend's 100th concert at the famous New York arena where he's had a residence for years. CBS’s broadcast of the March 28th event was two hours long and was scheduled to start at 9 p.m. EST.
However, thanks to some poor scheduling by the network, the show ran later than expected, and at precisely 11:30 p.m., the unthinkable happened.
Joel was in the middle of belting out "Piano Man," the final song of the night, along with the thousands of fans in attendance that night and probably more than a few of those watching at home.
Then CBS pulled a Heidi game repeat, and the feed of the concert stopped right as Joel sang the final verse of the song. This nightmare scenario happened for most people in Eastern and Central time zone markets.
Fans were understandably outraged, and many took to X to vent. Fortunately, CBS heard their complaints and has decided to run the show again later this week to make it up to them.
"A network programming timing error ended last night's Billy Joel special approximately two minutes early in the Eastern and Central Time Zones. We apologize to Mr. Joel, his fans, our affiliated stations, and our audience whose viewing experience was interrupted during the last song," CBS VP of Communications Julie Holland said in a statement. "Due to the overwhelming demand from his legion of fans, BILLY JOEL: THE 100TH – LIVE AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN will be rebroadcast in its entirety on CBS on April 19th at 9:00PM ET/PT."
Looks like fans had better get some tonic and gin and get in the mood for a melody on Friday night. And this time, there won’t be anyone to cut the moment short.
