Ex-Oklahoma Resident Wanted On Felony Charges For Not Returning VHS Tape - Two Decades Ago

Twenty-one years is a long time.

It's long enough that if you forgot to return a book or some type of multi-media back in the day, you should be forgiven.

That's not the case for former Oklahoma resident Caron McBride. She's facing federal embezzlement charges for not returning a VHS tape of Sabrina the Teenage Witch almost 22 years ago.

McBride got hitched, and when she went to try and change her last name on her Texas driver's license, she was told that she was wanted - back in Oklahoma - for not bringing back the VHS tape in a timely manner.

Again - 21 years ago.

“I went to change my driver’s license, during this COVID thing you had to make an appointment, and so, I sent them an email (and) they sent me an email and they told me… that I had an issue in Oklahoma and this was the reference number for me to call this number and I did," McBride told the local Norman, Oklahoma Fox station.

Documents online showed that, indeed, McBride was a wanted woman. The docs said that she was wanted for not returning a rental VHS tape of Sabrina the Teenage Witch in 1999.

McBride was amazed when she called the number and found out she was wanted for a felony.

“The first thing (the woman answering the phone at the Cleveland County District Attorney’s Office) told me was (I was wanted for) felony embezzlement, so, I thought I was gonna have a heart attack,” McBride said.

There is some good news to the story. After a lot of stress and a couple of sleepless nights, McBride found out she is off the hook for her 'crimes.'

How amazing is the whole saga? McBride said she even doesn’t remember ever renting the movie.
