Man Shot While Allegedly Attempting To Rob Jewelry Store: VIDEO

A man in Chicago learned the hard way that playing stupid games will result in winning stupid prizes.

Stunning video has surfaced of a jewelry store employee at a business located on 1 N. Wabash Ave. along Jewelers Row in Chicago shooting a man during an alleged attempted robbery, according to CBS News.

The robber allegedly attempted to smash his way through a case, and that's when things went south for him. An employee pulled out a handgun and opened fire.

Jewelry store employee shoots robber in Chicago.

Both the suspect and the shooter were taken in by police, and both were later released without charges, according to CBS News. The case remains under investigation, and the shooter did have a legal concealed carry license.

I understand releasing the shooter without charges, but what's the deal with the robber also being released? Not only was he wounded, but he also isn't being charged - for now.

He's on video appearing to smash through a case before being shot by a man with a legal concealed carry permit. What grounds do the police have for letting him walk? It's bizarre to say the least.

As for whether the shooting was justified, CBS News seems to indicate it was under current Illinois law when it comes to self-defense.

The statute reads, "A person is justified in the use of force… to prevent imminent death… or commission of forcible felony," according to CBS News. "Forcible felony" includes "robbery, burglary" in the state of Illinois, according to the same report.

This is also a great example of why guns are the ultimate equalizer. How don't care how tough and violent you think you are, there's not a human on the planet capable of stopping a bullet. As the saying goes, "God made man and Samuel Colt made them equal."

If you want to be a person who does bad things, then someone might choose to defend themselves. That's what happened here, and it resulted in the robber getting clipped by some flying lead. Let me know what you think at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
