Charley Hull Skipped Her Practice Round This Week To Go To The Pub & Watch England In The Euro Championship
Prior to last month's U.S. Women's Open, most casual golf fans probably weren't very familiar with LPGA Tour golfer Charley Hull. Those into the sport had heard of her as well as people, like myself, who knew of her thanks to her Instagram game.
A clip of the 28-year-old pulling off a John Daly-style move by signing autographs with a cigarette hanging out of her mouth changed that. She went viral, the name recognition went through the roof, and she's continued to add to her legend.
Over the weekend at the LPGA Championship, Charley was asked by a fan to sign his "dart." She graciously responded by initialing the man's dart with her sharpie. But that's not all the attention she's received this week as she continues her run as the people's women's golfer.
Charley, who is currently the 8th-ranked women's golfer according to the Women's World Golf Rankings, skipped her practice round this week at the Dow Championship to go hangout at the pub and watch soccer instead.
"It's actually quite good because I actually haven’t played the front nine of the golf course yet because… it was so busy, and I wanted to watch the England game," Charley said. "So I literally just said, ‘Ads, let’s just go the pub instead.'"
The Legend Of Charley Hull, The John Daly Of The LPGA, Continues To Grow
After skipping the practice round for the pub, one would assume a few drinks, and a Euro Championship game, Charley and her partner Georgia Hall shot a 66. Evidently they didn't need a practice round before hitting the course.
Smokin' Charley Hull, the John Daly of the LPGA, whatever nickname you want to come up with, she's living up to it. She's adding to her follower count and her overall number of fans as well.
It was a smart move to lean into the whole smoking cigarettes at the golf course and so is blowing off practice rounds to hit up the pub. This is what the people want.
They want a golfer who doesn’t mind having a smoke and/or a drink or two. This could quickly turn into the summer of Charley Hull and I, for one, am rooting for that.
