'Borderlands' Looks Like An Absolutely Terrible Movie: TRAILER
"Borderlands" looks like a horrible film.
The plot of the massively hyped movie, which drops August 9th, is as follows:
"Lilith (Cate Blanchett), an infamous bounty hunter with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home, Pandora, the most chaotic planet in the galaxy. Her mission is to find the missing daughter of Atlas (Edgar Ramírez), the universe's most powerful S.O.B. Lilith forms an unexpected alliance with a ragtag team of misfits -- Roland (Kevin Hart), a seasoned mercenary on a mission; Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt), a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg (Florian Munteanu), Tina's musclebound protector; Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis), the oddball scientist who's seen it all; and Claptrap (Jack Black), a wiseass robot. Together, these unlikely heroes must battle an alien species and dangerous bandits to uncover one of Pandora's most explosive secrets. The fate of the universe could be in their hands -- but they'll be fighting for something more: each other. Based on one of the best-selling videogame franchises of all time, welcome to BORDERLANDS."
Sounds pretty interesting, right? And there is a built-in audience because the movie is based on a popular video game franchise.
Well, I have some bad news because the trailer dropped Wednesday……and it's something to behold. Give it a watch below, and let me know your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
"Borderlands" looks awful.
Now, I'll be the first to admit that I haven't played one second of the video games. I'm not a big fan of video games - unless it's the upcoming college football video game.
Clearly, I'm not an expert on the backstory, but I am a fan of movies. I can usually get a feel for a movie off the trailer, and this one isn't the magic sauce fans are usually hoping for.
It looks childish, dumb and not serious at all. I saw the cast list and was fired up. Saw the trailer and was immediately deflated.
How can a movie with so many major stars look so bad? Again, I understand that it's meant for gamers, and that's not me. However, if you're going to make what seems to be a sci-fi film with post-apocalyptic vibes, then make it worth watching like "The Last of Us."
Maybe I'll turn out to be completely incorrect and love it. I'm just very skeptical that will happen after seeing the trailer. Let me know your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
