Biden Drops Out Of Presidential Race With A Statement On X, Endorses Kamala

President Joe Biden ended his re-election bid in the most 2024 way possible, with a post on X.

"And while is has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term," the statement said.

The beleaguered president's announcement ended days of speculation as to whether he'd soldier on in a race he was losing bigly in most polls to Donald Trump. The beginning of the end started three weeks ago when Biden stumbled and mumbled his way through a disastrous debate performance that showed questions about the 81-year-old  president's mental fitness were well-founded.

Republican nominee Donald Trump has released a statement about his thoughts about the announcement.

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban also posted a very simple message with his thoughts on the development, just one month after praising Biden for his performance at the most recent presidential debate.

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson called for Biden to step down immediately instead of waiting until the next election results.

Actor Russell Brand also voiced his pleasure at the announcement.

California Gov. Gavin Newsome thanked Biden for his work as president.

Keith Olbermann simply called Biden a hero, and praised him for endorsing Harris.

Former President Joe Biden also issued a lengthy statement about his former vice president's decision to drop out.

What happens now is anybody's guess. Biden endorsed his vice president, Kamala Harris, but that doesn't annoint her as the candidate automatically. Open convention? Hunger Games? Your guess is as good as ours.

This is a developing story, and we'll be updating it as more news hits.
