OutKick Reviews Beyonce's New Country Album: Yee Haw or Hell Naw?
Beyoncé goes country!
For weeks now, the music world has been either eagerly waiting or dreading the moment when one of the world's most famous singers would be heading down those country roads as Beyonce did in her newly released "Cowboy Carter," album.
But let's be honest, this is Beyoncé we're talking about. The R&B / pop powerhouse that typically is up on stage singing about being Crazy in Love or asking where all the Single Ladies are at. Could she pull off the country thing, too?
The answer is yes, because in the end it's the music that matters, despite those that want to continue to say that the country music world is racist.
YEE HAW OR HELL NAW?
Whether you hate her or love her, you can't deny that Beyonce has an incredible voice - something that she perfectly displays on Cowboy Carter.
The album features the best of that old country feel along with a modern twist and twang to it. There's no doubt that the Texas-born Beyonce knew exactly what she was doing when she put together these songs - some of them are absolute jams.
And hey, you don't have to believe me - just ask Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson who both appear on the album! I dare someone to go against Queen Dolly and Grandpa Willie when it comes to knowing country music. Beyonce also adds Miley Cyrus and Post Malone to give the album even more of a modern feel to it as well.
Some of my favorite songs include "Texas Hold Em," which is the perfect yee-haw, grab your lady at the bar and start getting up and moving your legs because it's that damn good.
MIRRORS FEATURING MILEY CYRUS
Another one of my favorites is the Miley Cyrus featured "Mirrors."
This song is an absolute jam and a great duet. Get ready to hear this one NONSTOP on your radio, at award shows, graduation ceremonies and weddings. It's got that "Shallow" feel to it.
Other favorites include "Alligator Tears" and "Ya Ya" which is giving me straight up TINA TURNER vibes and also includes a country-esque upbeat sample of the Beach Boys "Good Vibrations."
Seriously, this song has a TON going on.
NOT FOR EVERYBODY
There are some songs that will definitely have country fans going, "WTF" when they hear it.
For example, the song "Spaghetti," is a straight-up rap / funk freestyle that comes onto the tracklist out of nowhere. All of a sudden, things are going along fun and then, BAMM! You're hit with something that Cardi B could have rapped.
Beyoncé also likes using the word "bitch," "sh**" and other curses which come across as out of place from time to time.
IN THE END…
If people can put aside their previous opinions about Beyonce and being married to Jay Z and her wokeness at times, and just listen to her incredible voice - I don't think there's any way you can't enjoy and really like a number of these new songs.
That also goes for Beyoncé too, however. She has already criticized the country music world for experiences she said were embarrassing and humiliating over her not being accepted by the Country Music Association and others simply because she was black.
Whether that's true or not from an organizational standpoint I don't know. But with the impending success of Cowboy Carter, Beyoncé will realize that the average country fan - just like the real sports fan, doesn't give a single care what color, nationality, or background one has. Talent will always win in the end.
