Bavarian Police Protest Uniform Shortages By Stripping Down To Their Underwear

Police in the German state of Bavaria are tired of hearing excuses for why they have to wait for several months before receiving certain items they've ordered for their uniforms.  So they're taking measures to raise awareness.

Frustrated officers are stripping down to their underwear to help highlight the issues with their uniform orders.  The German Police Union (DPolG) put together a video which is making the rounds on social media to expose the lack of respect the men and women in uniform are facing.

In the video, which is designed to drive the struggles with uniform orders home, two officers are sitting in their patrol car discussing waiting up to six months for their respective uniform orders.

The two then exit the vehicle to reveal that they're not wearing any pants.  They're just a couple of officers casually going about their business in their underwear.

While the video, and the idea of a pantless protest in general, is pretty funny, the situation the Bavarian police officers find themselves in is not.

Jürgen Köhnlein, the chairman of the Bavarian DPolG union, isn't laughing.  He sees the situation as a lack of respect towards the police.

Nothing Gets A Point Across Like A Pantless Protest

"Bavaria's police are 'stripping bare' and could literally be left standing without trousers," Köhnlein said.  He says the wait times for up to 21 different uniform items, including caps, jackets, and you guessed it, pants can take months.

To complicate matters further, some items aren't available at all.  Talk about good times.  If this isn't a reason for a protest in your underwear, I don't know what is.

An Interior Ministry spokesperson acknowledged that there were issues, but assured that the state had implemented new procedures to address them.  Those annoying supply bottlenecks have struck again.

Have no worries, there are plans to take over the delivery of the uniforms with a new distribution center that will be built by 2030.  See…problem solved.

There's not much they can do about the issues right this minute anyway.  State officials claim the uniform shortages have been made worse by the new excuses for everything; the Covid pandemic and Ukraine war.
