Amazon Looking To Add The Powerhouse Indian Premier League Rights To Their Resume

Everyone already knows that Amazon is a retail and television giant, and over the years, the platform has grown and become more of a force worldwide.

Now the company is branching out even further and looking to grab even more broadcast rights to teams and leagues that will make it even more of a powerhouse.

Mind you, Amazon already has rights to the NFL, soccer’s Premier League and Champions League, and the New York Yankees.

That isn't stopping them. The latest rumor is that they are going after the Indian Premier League, a cricket league, of all things.

You might chuckle ask yourself, 'Why would Amazon waste its time on cricket?' But note that last year, the league's season opening game drew more than twice the viewership of the 2021 Super Bowl.

Wow.

At the end of the day, Amazon's goal is simply to get people to sign up for Amazon Prime. It is a worthy service which offers not only the events mentioned above, but also free shipping for much of its retail.

As of 2020, 142.5 million people reportedly subscribe to Amazon Prime, up from 99.7 million in 2017.
