Actor Ian McKellen Hospitalized After Falling Off Stage!

There was a loud shriek of horror and then a massive rush to help after iconic actor Ian McKellen slipped and fell off the Noel Coward Theater stage Monday night. Some in the audience even began to cry before officials evacuated the building and canceled the show as the actor remains hospitalized in stable condition.

McKellen, most known for his role as Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings movies as well as Magnetto in X-Men, was the lead actor in "Player Kings" and was in the middle of a fight scene when he toppled off the stage in front of the packed theater. Witnesses said that he was moaning in pain while being attended to by doctors that happened to be in the audience.

"Sir Ian seemed to trip as he moved downstage to take a more active part in the scene. He picked up momentum as he moved downstage, which resulted in him falling off the stage directly in front of the audience," one person in attendance told the PR News Agency.

A newly released statement from the Noel Coward Theatre says Sir Ian is "in good spirits" and is expected to make "a speedy and full recovery." The play remains canceled for Wednesday but could potentially resume on Thursday.
