'Yellowstone' Prequel Gets Big Season 2 Update

Production is underway on season two of "1923."

Season one wrapped up in early 2023 on Paramount+, and the "Yellowstone" prequel with Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren was a massive hit from the moment it premiered.

It tells the story of the Duttons in the 1920s as they face constant threats, with a heavy focus on Spencer Dutton (Brandon Skelnar).

Fans have been desperate for any updates on the show's status, and after lots of silence, we have one.

Production is rolling on "1923."

The Austin Film commission announced Wednesday that production on the show's highly-anticipated second season is finally underway.

MySanAntonio.com reported that production is expected to go through at least part of September.

This also helps fans get a bit of a look at when the show might premiere with its second season. With production on season two underway and it going through part of September, I think it's reasonable to believe an early 2025 release date is likely.

Unlike shows like "Stranger Things" or "House of the Dragon," there's very minimal special effects in "1923." It's a lot of dialogue with the occasional shootout or chaotic scene.

Not having many special effects really cuts down on post-production, and that means early 2025 is definitely the most realistic release window.

What I can tell you is we'll have plenty of updates here at OutKick whenever season two gets a release date and trailer. Let me know your thoughts on the "Yellowstone" prequel at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
