Apple Nearing Deal With Hyundai-Kia, Autonomous Cars Are Coming
The idea of Apple Cars has been around for years, but on Wednesday, we got one step closer to that reality. CNBC reports that Apple is close to finalizing a deal with Hyundai-Kia to help manufacture Apple-branded vehicles.
Why Hyundai-Kia? Your guess is as good as mine, but it looks like this thing is going to be a go. As if that wasn't enough, the electric vehicle is expected to be fully autonomous. In other words, it won't be designed to operate with a driver.
According to the report, the Apple Car will go into production in 2024. An assembly plant in West Point, Georgia will be responsible for producing the revolutionary vehicles.
So, what are these things going to operate like? According to 9to5Mac, Hyundai's spec sheet has a few interesting tidbits. First off, the top speed is expected to be 160 miles per hour, and it will go 0-to-60 in less than 3.5 seconds.
More importantly, it will go up 300 miles on a single charge, and unlike our iPhones, it can have an 80 percent charge in only 18 minutes. Why my phone can't do the same, I'll never know -- but that's beside the point.
In order to get this thing off the ground, Apple is going to need to invest approximately $3.6 billions in Kia Motors. What a time to be alive, right?
