Manny Pacquiao's Hanging Up The Gloves: 'Goodbye, Boxing'
Sixty-two wins and eight titles later, Manny Pacquiao is leaving the boxing ring for good. Early Wednesday morning, the 42-year-old Pacquiao announced his retirement from the sport in a 15-minute video posted to social media, entitled "Good Bye Boxing." Last month's loss at the hand's of Yordenis Ugas will go down as the final bout of Pacquiao's memorable career.
"To the greatest fans and the greatest sport in the world, thank you! Thank you for all the wonderful memories. This is the hardest decision I've ever made, but I'm at peace with it. Chase your dreams, work hard, and watch what happens. Good bye boxing," tweeted Pacquiao.
The Filipino legend spent more than two decades in the ring, compiling a record of 62 wins, 8 losses and 2 draws. Thirty-nine of his victories came by way of knockout.
“It is difficult for me to accept that my time as a boxer is over. Today, I am announcing my retirement. I never thought that this day would come," said Pacquiao.
"As I hang up my boxing gloves, I would like to thank the whole world, especially the Filipino people, for supporting Manny Pacquiao.
"Goodbye, boxing."
Pacquiao leaves the sport having won titles in eight different weight classes and cashing a boatload of checks. His 2015 fight with Floyd Mayweather is the best-selling pay-per-view event of all time.
He'll now turn his attention to politics, announcing earlier this month that he'll be running for Philippine president in 2022.
