Conor McGregor Comes Away Impressed With Fury-Wilder Trilogy

The Tyson Fury/Deontay Wilder trilogy came to an emphatic end on Saturday night when Fury knocked out Wilder in the 11th round. The two put on a Jim Ross style slobberknocker, and Conor McGregor came away a big fan of both fighters.

McGregor said on Twitter that he had respect for how both Fury and Wilder performed, especially Wilder for fighting with a 40-pound disadvantage.

"Great fight that. Both warriors, both winners. Hard to not be impressed with Deontay there. Against the much larger man and almost got it done," McGregor wrote. "Great fight. 40lb’s in weight difference is A LOT. Fair play both men there, very enjoyable fights they have had together. Respect."

With the win, Fury improved to 31-0-1 in his career. His lone draw came in his first fight against Wilder back in 2018. Fury remained WBC and The Ring champion as a result, a title he's now held since Feb. 2020.

McGregor lauded the two for putting on a great show before taking a dig at Dustin Poirier, the man he had his own trilogy with, the last of which came on July 10, 2021. That fight ended with McGregor suffering a serious leg injury after taking a strong right hand from Poirier. The fight was ruled a TKO in Poirier's favor due to doctor stoppage.

"Their skill levels are unique but very close. A great heavyweight trilogy that was. I love when it gets set for certain and both have an honorable showing," McGregor wrote. "Not the fam in the ring fake celebrating after a freak injury etc etc you know the gig, God bless the real in this world."
