Two WNBA Plays On One Game Between Liberty And Mercury

Liberty vs. Mercury, 10:00 ET

Liberty vs. Mercury, 10:00 ET

If you have bet every one of my WNBA plays that I've put out for Outkick, you've been able to pick up four units and hit at a 100% rate. You may not like the game, and be sick of the coverage, that's fine. However, the bets you place on these game work the exact same way as any other game. I stress that because if you are going to be serious about sports betting, you need to find different sports/markets that you can take advantage of. I don't always win when I put out a WNBA bet, but I do enjoy the games and I'm happy to do these plays. Back I go to the WNBA well and hope that we can cash yet another ticket on the game between the Liberty and Mercury.

The most recent WNBA game that I put a play out on was between the Liberty and the Aces. This was a rematch from last season's championship, and I told everyone to take either the points or play the moneyline for the Liberty. We were able to catch that victory as the Liberty went into Las Vegas and got a bit of revenge as they won 92-82. The Liberty come into this game having only played one game in the past 9 days (the aforementioned Aces game). Prior to the Aces game, they didn't play for six days and they showed there was no rest vs rust argument. The Liberty are showing that the team is looking determined and trying to repeat their journey to the WNBA Finals this season. They started the year 4-0 then dropped two games in a row, one against the Chicago Sky who are scrappy, but not very good, and the other against a good Minnesota Linx team. Tonight, they take on the Mercury, a team that has a lot of talent, but doesn't play a ton of great defense. What I like about the Liberty team is their ability to balance the floor out. Sabrina Ionescu runs the team very efficiently and knows how to score for them when needed. Their other guards are both good defenders and know when to pick their spot for scoring. As far as forwards, Jonquel Jones and Breanna Stewart are among the best in the league.

Speaking of the Mercury, the team is 7-7 and 5-2 at work, so clearly doing their best work on their home floor. This is the third game of a three-game homestand for the Mercury and they are looking to end it at 2-1 after beating Seattle Sunday, but losing to the Aces last Thursday. After starting the season 3-1, Phoenix dropped four straight. They seem to have found their footing, going 4-2 over their past six games. The team decided to make a push this offseason, seemingly to try and get another competitive team before Diana Taurasi makes her decision to retire or not. The team is led in scoring by one of their offseason additions, Kahleah Copper. Copper is averaging 24 points per game for the season and is a true scoring let on multiple levels. Taurasi is shooting well from deep, and showing that despite her age, she still is one of the better players in the league. Brittney Griner has only played in four games, but has been very effective in those games. In fact, she has put up 24 or more points in three straight games. If the Mercury really want to improve, they need to find a way to cut down on turnovers. They brought in Natasha Cloud after eight years in Washington, but at this point in time, she is averaging 3.6 turnovers. Maybe she needs a little longer to get in sync with the team, but that's a bad look for them.

This game should be fairly fast paced with a lot of scoring. The total is a bit high at 167.5, because that assumes each team is probably going to score in the 80's but that should be reasonable. I do think the Mercury will likely run out of gas at the end of this game as well, but you're not looking for this game to be much more than the average points scored and allowed by both teams. I'll back the over for this, but I'm also taking the Liberty -5.5. They are playing great basketball and I think the Mercury are not quite there.
