Two Plays For Tonight's WCC Games
WCC Tournament Plays
Yesterday, we ended college basketball's regular season with a victory in a game between Wisconsin and Purdue. I put a play on the over 147.5 in the game and was lucky to grab a win on a game that ended with 148 points. This was a good game and we didn't have too many games this season where they were very sweaty like this one was. After some bad luck Saturday, we were able to get this one on Sunday and now have a chance to make a play on a few different games tipping off today. I have a couple of plays and will share them both here.
Santa Clara vs. Saint Mary's, 9:00 ET
The WCC Tournament begins tonight and one of the more prominent games features Santa Clara taking on Saint Mary's. Saint Mary's is arguably the team to beat in the tournament with the 23rd rank in the country and a 24-7 record. They were able to win the regular season conference with a record of 15-1. Their one loss came at the hands of Gonzaga, the team that is likely to face them in the championship if the tournament ends up as chalk. The team is rather well balanced with four players averaging double figures and another right on the cusp. That would put all five of their starters scoring at least 10 points. They have another few players on the bench that contribute but aren't really focal points of the offense or defense. On Santa Clara's side, they have to be encouraged that they hung with Saint Mary's in the last game between the two. They fell on the road by just five points. In the first matchup when Santa Clara hosted, they were able to win by 24. For the season Santa Clara has gone 20-12 on the year and are just 10-6 within the conference. Obviously, two of the losses came against Saint Mary's. The other four were against Gonzaga, Portland, San Diego, and San Francisco. Three of those losses were on the road. There are only five games this season that Santa Clara has played on a neutral court, and they are 3-2 on the season. The losses were rather ugly ones though. In this one, I think Saint Mary's is clearly the better team. I think that Saint Mary's has the better defense and should hold Santa Clara down. The total is rather low, and I think this game might go over the total. With just 134.5 as the line, I'll take the over.
San Francisco vs. Gonzaga, 11:30 ET
Another game that takes place tonight in the WCC Tournament sees San Francisco take on Gonzaga. San Francisco comes into this game with a 23-9 record and an 11-5 record within the conference. They have struggled in their recent stretch of games with just a 2-3 record over their past five games. They lost on the road to Saint Mary's by just four points, lost to Gonzaga at home by almost 20, and on the road against Santa Clara by seven points. They have had some very strong stretches this season with winning streaks of six games and seven games. They have a six-man rotation that all average about eight points or more per game. The top two players for the squad are a forward and guard that combine to put up about 28.5 points per game. Gonzaga is finally coming alive after a fairly uninteresting season to start the year. Unlike past years where they were one of the top teams in the country the entire time, Gonzaga somewhat flew under the radar despite a 24-6 overall record and going 14-2 in the conference. Their two conference losses came at the hands of Santa Clara and Saint Mary's. As usual, the Bulldogs are led by their forwards, a duo that combines to score 31.1 points per game. They also have a dynamic backcourt that are averaging 26.8 points per game. I like the way the team is put together for this matchup and do think they have the clear edge and are the better team. I think the game goes under 149 as I don't think San Francisco will put up enough points, but I'll take Gonzaga to cover the -8.5 in this one.
