The Chiefs Will Win Another Super Bowl Despite The Needs Of Vegas

49ers vs. Chiefs, 6:30 ET

49ers vs. Chiefs, 6:30 ET

The Super Bowl is finally here. Every year my favorite thing about this day isn't the game. It isn't even the betting. See, I like to cook as well, and each year, I make a dish based on something related to the teams playing. For example, last year, I made cheesesteaks and I made pulled pork for Kansas City. Now that Kansas City has been in the Super Bowl four times, I'm starting to run out of ideas (I'm doing a brisket this year and Peking duck for San Francisco). I forget what I made the first time the teams played each other but it certainly was different than what I'm making today. The last time the two teams played Kansas City won, will that be different as well?

The 49ers come into this game after looking good for basically one half of football in the playoffs. They were able to beat the Packers after holding them scoreless in the fourth quarter. The Packers scored just six points in the first half, but they went into the locker room down just 7-6. Then in the second half, they blitzed the 49ers and scored 15 points on the 49ers. It looked a little ugly as San Francisco was down by seven points going into the fourth quarter. Ultimately it wasn't enough as the 49ers were able to win the game in the final minute. A bad decision/interception sent them to play against the Lions. The game was even more ugly against the Lions. In the first half of the Detroit game, they were outscored 24-7. The Lions ran the ball with ease and they passed the ball even easier. The second half was mostly the result of mistakes by their opponent's head coach and less about the 49ers success. Though, to their credit, they took care of business and outscored the Lions by 20 points. The Lions had a good running defense, but they still allowed 155 rushing yards. The Packers were a solid enough passing defense but Brock Purdy was able to throw for 252 yards and a touchdown in that game. It will be very difficulty to face the Chiefs who have one of the best defenses in the game. How will the 49ers win this game? The only possibility that I see is for them to run the ball and keep Patrick Mahomes on the sideline. When Mahomes is on the field, if the 49ers rush can find ways to bring him to the ground, I could see them pulling out a victory.

The problem with the Chiefs has been much more obvious than the issues with the 49ers this season. The defense of the Chiefs has been very strong for almost the entire year. The rushing defense has left some room for opportunities with opponents, but the passing defense has been great and they've been one of the best defenses this season. Offensively the Chiefs are not the same they were even last year. The wide receiver room finally had someone emerge in Rashee Rice. Prior to that, they were a group of misfits that couldn't do what they needed to do. They led the league in drops and it was a constant disappointment - even Travis Kelce. The playoffs have been different though. They aren't really dominating their opponent, but they are finding ways to win. They put up 26 points in the cold against the Dolphins, 27 against the Bills on the road, and 17 against the Ravens, once again on the road. Kelce has emerged once again as a force and is the primary target for Mahomes. Maybe he was injured and now is finally feeling healthy? Rice is a reliable receiver, and the running game even performs well for the Chiefs. How can they win this game? I think the defense needs to put pressure on Purdy. I'm not sure that he is ready for this game. The run defense also needs to contain Christian McCaffrey. If the 49ers are smart, they will get him 30 touches. That would make it hard for the Chiefs to win the game. Offensively, I think the run game will be important for the Chiefs. I think if they can exploit some holes that might make the 49ers be honest and open up more space for Mahomes and his receivers.

I think there are more opportunities in this game for the Chiefs to win. The 49ers are a solid team, but they've also had a lot of moments where they look like frauds not only in the regular season, but the playoffs as well. I don't even think we need the points here, I think the Chiefs are the correct side. I'm going to take them to win this game. It does feel like everyone is on the side of the Chiefs which means maybe I should be on the 49ers, I just think their margin for error is very small and the Chiefs have the better quarterback, the better defense, the better tight end, the better coach, and Taylor Swift. Then again, the 49ers have the needs of Las Vegas. Scott Van Pelt said something along the lines of "I feel like the obvious choice is the Chiefs. It feels like free money. I don't know anyone that thinks the 49ers will win and know a lot of people are betting on the Chiefs. So I'll take the 49ers but I have no justification for it." Sorry Scott, but the books can still make a ton of money even if the Chiefs win. I'll take them to win the game.
