Nothing Is More New Jersey Than Betting Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu In A Car Aka 'CarJitsu'

Low-key, New Jersey has replaced Las Vegas as the Mecca for sports betting. According to ESPN gambling writer Doug Greenberg, on Tuesday, June 18th, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement green-lit wagering for the CarJitsu Championship, which is exactly as it sounds: A two-person Brazilian jiu-jitsu bout inside a car. Riveting.

Pro League Network (PLN), CarJitsu's governing body, wisely sought the Garden State's approval first. Remember, former New Jersey Governor Philip D. Murphy got the Supreme Court to overturn a lower court's PASPA ruling in May 2018. So the same state that brought us Taylor Ham Pork Roll, The Sopranos, and Bruce Springsteen also got us sports betting.

Bill Yucatonis, PLN co-founder, told ESPN: "We wanted to stand it up there first and we felt if we could meet all the expectations and requirements in New Jersey, it gave us a flight path for other parts of the country". PLN got gambling approval from states for other random sports it operates, such as the World Putting League and SlapFIGHT Championship.

The first thing that came to mind when I read about CarJitsu was Snoop Dogg's scene in Training Day with Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke. Snoop Dogg plays a drug dealer in a wheelchair who Washington's and Hawke's cop characters interrogate. After Hawke tracks him down, Snoop's character says "Put me in the front seat with him and I bet I whoop his a--".

Ultimately, I love having more "sports" to bet. But, I wouldn't know the first thing about betting CarJitsu. It has to be sports betting's equivalent of flipping coins. Maybe they'll have "submissions via seatbelt" stats. There won't be betting splits to use a "fade the public" handicapping angle. Perhaps the eyeball test or fighter's nicknames are a fun way to gamble on CarJitsu.

Regardless, give me some beer, pizza, and a link to the fights and I'll justify a few CarJitsu wagers. My main issue will be finding another reason to visit New Jersey.
