How to Prepare for Super Bowl Winnings
Next Sunday, sports bettors across the country will be firing up their smartphones or rushing to the local casino to unload on bets on America’s grandest game – the Super Bowl. For many, it will be their first time betting on sports, which is extremely exciting. If that describes you, welcome!
With legal sports gambling authorized in more states, Super Bowl LV is poised to be the most wagered upon sports event in American history. Our partners at the FanDuel Sportsbook, which currently operates in ten states, already have hundreds of betting options for the “Big Game,” with offerings expected to grow. With a fantastic game like the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers, these bets come with incredible intrigue, so intriguing it becomes overwhelming.
I can’t stress this enough: Don’t go crazy. It doesn’t matter if this is your first bet or your thousandth. Have a plan.
I promise that if you plan, you could be in for an extremely profitable night, or at the very worst, will mitigate losses. We love profits!
Ahead is how we’ll plan for betting the Super Bowl next weekend.
Note: This plan won’t tell you what to pick (we will release our gambling guides throughout the week), but how to prioritize your bets. Additionally, I’ve dropped in some cool tips that’ll help you make your bets for Super Bowl Sunday. Let’s get to it.
First Things First
Just because it’s the Super Bowl doesn’t mean you need to unload your entire bankroll on things like the coin toss, both teams scoring in every quarter, or whether both teams will use all six timeouts in the game. I’m right there with you; those bets are fantastic! But they’re offered for a reason: the sportsbook has the edge.
I’m not above playing them! There isn’t better entertainment value.
Treat it as such. Remember, the sportsbook stays in business because the house is always at an advantage. Treat the Super Bowl like any other game. Be selective of what you play. There will be hundreds of lines to choose from. Don’t get overwhelmed.
Bet Early
If you were planning to walk into a sportsbook on Super Bowl Sunday, consider going earlier. Everyone else will be betting on Sunday, too. To avoid long lines or a slow app on your phone, get your bets in early. It’ll save you some stress.
It’s also good to bet early if you’re planning on taking any “over” props. Because Super Bowl betting lines are driven primarily by public betting, you can expect overs to increase game day. You’ll want to get your bet in at the best number, so bet it early.
Break Bets Down in Segments
If your goal is profit, make sure to play your straight bets BEFORE you start betting exotic parlays. If you don’t know the difference between a straight bet or parlay, we explain betting lingo extensively in our Gambling 101 Guide.
Make sure your straight bets at least cover what you’ll pay on parlays. Remember, by adding a second leg to your parlay, the house increases its edge against you. The safest bet always will be a straight bet. My general rule is to go bigger on those than parlays.
With that in mind, here’s how I suggest prioritizing your Super Bowl bets:
1.) Bet your straight bets first. Those are your typical spreads, moneylines, and totals. Example: Tampa Bay +3.
2.) Player Props. These are similar to fantasy bets. For example, if I think Travis Kelce is in for a big game, I can bet him to make over 7.5 receptions. There are a lot of great opportunities to win a straight player prop.
3.) Bet Your Parlays. The FanDuel Sportsbook anticipates this year’s Super Bowl will feature the most same game parlays in history. I’m undoubtedly playing a couple. You should too! Just don’t blow your entire wad here because they’re hard to win.
4.) Game Props. These are strictly for entertainment value. Sprinkle a few bucks if you like these bets. Examples are the coin toss or length of the national anthem. I don’t recommend betting five figures on these.
Create A Sheet
Trust me. It’ll make life much easier and ensure you don’t bet anything you don’t love. Don’t just prep yourself for a fun day. Prep yourself to win! Write down what you love and stick to it. If you get a tip on something, do your due diligence and ensure it's something you love.

Best of luck, make some money, and have fun out there! Enjoy the game!
