Caitlin Clark Props For WNBA Debut Tuesday Are The Hottest Bets In Sports
Step aside, 2024 NBA Playoffs. Caitlin Clark makes her much-anticipated WNBA debut in the Indiana Fever's season opener vs. the Connecticut Sun Tuesday, May 14th. Tip-off at the Mohegan Sun Arena is 7:30 p.m. ET. The Fever-Sun game will attract more eyeballs than both NBA playoff games. This game airs on ESPN 2 and ESPN+ and will be Disney+'s first-ever live sports event. Not only are television networks capitalizing on Clark's first WNBA game, but so are sportsbooks.
Honestly, I'm so deep into gambling on the NBA playoffs and the 2024 PGA Championship, I didn't realize Clark was playing in her first WNBA game. Until fellow OutKick handicapper, David Troy, texted me he was betting UNDER Clark's 33.5 player combo (points, rebounds, and assists), I was in the dark. However, now that I know Clark is playing Tuesday, I want in on the action too.
How to bet on Caitlin Clark in her first WNBA game?
Clark averaged 16.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in Indiana's two WNBA preseason games. She scored 21 points in the Fever's 79-76 loss to the Dallas Wings in her first preseason game. Then 12 points in an 83-80 win over the Atlanta Dream in her second.
While preseason doesn't mean anything, Caitlin's numbers in her first regular-season game will mirror the ones above. In March, the Iowa Hawkeye broke Pete Maravich's record for most points scored in Division I basketball history. Clark led the nation in both points (31.6) and assists per game (8.9) en route to winning a second straight Naismith College Basketball Player of the Year in her senior season at Iowa.
That said, all the justified hype surrounding Caitlin's entrance into professional basketball gives betting value on her Unders. I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but if everyone predicts something will happen in sports, the wise move is to go in the opposite direction. By now, I'm sure you've heard the sports betting axiom, "Fade the public". Well, Clark's Overs are the most publicly bet thing Tuesday.
I'm sure WNBA's players are excited their game is getting more coverage, but the veterans will go at Clark. They are professionals too and no one wants to be embarrassed by a rookie. With that in mind, my advice is to fade Clark Tuesday and bet Under her 21.5-point prop. She's too good of a shooter to fade the 3-point-prop, yet the Sun's whole gameplan will be to stop her from lighting them up.
