BeatinTheBookie: Phoenix Rising, Suns Surging
There's a new youthful force in the NBA's Western Conference, the Phoenix Suns, who have surged to a 23-11 record on the season after defeating the Los Angeles Lakers Tuesday night in LA. They're not just good, they cover, and lately, they've been a bettors dream, going 15-3 against the spread in their last 18 games. So is Phoenix for real, or is this just a fluke? With the offseason addition of future hall of famer Chris Paul, the Suns have the perfect mix of youth and experience. Are they NBA Championship contenders? Not likely quite yet, but they certainly possess the ability to shock a few big names in the playoffs, or at least for our interests, in the regular season.
Led by the least talked about superstar in the NBA in my opinion, Devin Booker (25ppg), along with fellow youngsters Deandre Ayton (14ppg & 12reb) and Mikal Bridges (14ppg), this team presents massive value to bettors in a long NBA regular season. What kind of value am I talking about? With the youth of the Suns, they've got an advantage over the Clippers and Lakers in the regular season due to the fact that their star players don't sit out for "load management", the new trend in the NBA.
The majority of the Suns players will likely play every game in the regular season barring injury. The regular season means little to players like Lebron James and Kawhi Leonard, who have both won NBA Championships and know exactly what it takes to get back to the Finals. This view isn't really flawed at all, most champions know what they need to do to get ready for the playoffs, and doing it in the regular season isn't it......similar to Major League Baseball, where you never want to be playing your best ball in June (Just ask the Oakland A's).
For these reasons, coupled with the fact that they're currently only a half game out of first place, I'll be heading on over to FanDuel Sportsbook to bet the Phoenix Suns to win the Pacific Division at +500, good luck!
