South Carolina Announces QB Luke Doty Is Out For The Season

Shane Beamer announced on Tuesday that starting quarterback Luke Doty is done for the season after he re-aggravated a foot injury. Doty first suffered the injury during fall camp, but returned to the starting lineup after the first few games. He came up limping during the Vanderbilt game this past weekend.

"Like I said the other night, he re-injured his foot. He will be done for the year," Beamer said on Tuesday. "He’s going to have surgery this week. That’s the best thing for him, short-term and long-term, to get this thing healed up."

Unfortunately for the Gamecocks, it is unknown when Doty will return to the practice field even after surgery is completed and the season ends.

“Kind of trying to get all that figured out right now,” Beamer added. “He’s in great spirits, he was at practice Sunday night. He was in the offensive meeting this morning, asking some questions. He’s in the meeting and engaged like he’s the starting quarterback this week, which I appreciate, and he was at practice this morning.”

Now, the Gamecocks will go back to Zeb Noland, who's started three games this season and thrown for six touchdowns. Noland entered the Vanderbilt game in the final minute and led the Gamecocks to the game-winning touchdown.

Beamer also noted that Zeb has been getting a good number of reps during the time he hasn't been starting, knowing he could be called upon again.

“We work our first and second group, on offense and defense, equally, so Zeb’s gotten plenty of work in practice, and got some work with the 1s, as well. We’re always competing. Luke was the starting quarterback, but every single week, we’re competing and Zeb’s been getting work, so his workload won’t change at all. He’s been getting plenty of it.”

The Gamecocks will play Texas A&M on Saturday in College Station.
